lyrics

There's a sky above Missouri and there are stars above the city and from your condo back in Brooklyn there's a world you'll never see. It's where you drank all of that liquor and it spilled like watercolor, across your blank and white canvas, it is sour and bitter. All this time, I thought I was wrong because my wheels and the road they're on are like a needle on a record and it's playing my favorite song. "Home" is what you called me, but home's not where you want to be. All those flights east and northbound and the engine's noisy sound. While you were tangled in his sheets, I was sleeping in the clouds. Wasted time and wasted money, it doesn't mean that much to me so take one last shot from the dark room as I'm heading out to sea. Where I'll let hope fill my sails though you said, "Optimism is a jail" from here on out I know, it's all mackerel scales and mare's tails. "Home" is what you called me but home's not where you want to be. And we planted a garden where nothing ever grew so you crossed the street to where the flowers were all red and blue but as you sat down the petals all turned to brown and I was in full bloom. So to you with all your shortcuts and your heart never in a rut, you found the quickest way out of the city in which we were stuck. A roll of film up on the shelf, take it down and remind yourself of a kiss from a person whose name doesn't ring a bell. I sold my camera for a compass because a picture is meaningless, you missed the moment, I dodged a bullet and now the needle is pointing west...
